yea i saw this, he has a youtube channel and he is selling them (with out the marker,or laptop) for a 1000 bucks each.

Last year I joined my school's robotics team as a C++ programmer...The task one year was to make a 180-pound robot that could identify, gather, load, and shoot a nerf-ball projectile through a 3' hoop. It had a 30-seccond autonomous mode where it operated really similar to this autonomous paintball-aimer gadget after it collected a nerf ball. It had a laser eye on it which was able to identify the distance and elevation to the hoop, and synced up that data with how many RPMs to spin our shooting wheel at, which worked similar to how a pitching machine works... The team made it to nationals that year. Basically the same concept as this paintball thing with a few added challenges (Not that the autonomous paintball gun isn't amazing).

I think this automatic marker is really cool though, especially since I've always been interested in Artificial Intelligence, especially those unmanned aircraft...

I quit the team thought because the last competition I was told that my welds looked like "Space junk" (They were pretty nice if you ask me, especially for aluminum) and I was told my design was stupid. Well, in the end a team from South Portland made an almost exact replica of mine and went to nationals, while we finished 48th out of 48 teams.

Anyone want to try to build one of these auto paintball markers with me some time?

Aluminum is one of THE toughest metals to weld. You need to have your parts up to temperature, everything needs to be supper clean, can not touch the tungsten tip to any part of the object and to top it all off when hot aluminum does not glow so it is very hard to see your puddle.

I made a Wood Fired Hot Tub Stove once out of 1/4" Aluminum plate and took me about 40 hours to weld it up. (ask Norm about the paintball weekend and Hot Tub time up in Rangeley)

yeah, aluminum is pretty hard to weld but not as hard as you're making it seem.
